August 10-12, 1999 LinuxWorld Expo in San Jose, USA

The LinuxWorld Expo was a three-day event in San Jose. It featured a talk by Kurt Granroth with the title "The Truth about KDE and GNOME". Matthias Ettrich was on a panel entitled "Developing the Linux Way". KDE also had a booth in the .org pavilion (Troll Tech also had a booth!).

August 21-24, 1999 Open Source Convention in Monterey (CA), USA

Kalle Matthias Dalheimer represented KDE at the Open Source Convention in Monterey (CA - US), organized by O'Reilly on August 21-24, 1999.

Kalle gave both a programming tutorial and a talk.

July 16-17, 1999 Wizards of OS #1 in Berlin / Germany

Kalle Dalheimer held a talk at the Wizards of OS conference event in Melbourne. This conference was the first in a series focusing on open source and free software.

July 9, 1999 CALU 99 in Melbourne, Australia

The conference for Australian Linux Users (CALU) in Australia was a one-day event in Melbourne. There was a tutorial on progamming with KDE and Qt, held by KDE developer Sirtaj Singh Kang. Visit the CALU webpage for more information about this event.

June 26-27, 1999 LinuxTag 1999 in Kaiserslautern, Germany

Germany's biggest Linux user show - the LinuxTag - opened its door on June, 26. A KDE booth featured several active KDE developers. There were three talks about KDE:

  • Torben Weis spoke about KOffice on Saturday, 26th.
  • Programmers were interested in the talk by Burkhard Lehner about KDE programming on Sunday, 27th.
  • On the same day, Matthias Ettrich presented a "view behind the scenes" in his talk "Who is writing the KDE code?!".
June 24-25, 1999 Europe-Japan Conference on Linux and Free Software

KDE was represented at the Europe-Japan Conference in Tokyo. This conference focused on three aspects:

  • Make Europe and Japan Free Software communities know each other.
  • Promote Europe-Japan cooperation through common Free Software initiatives and projects.
  • Help Europe and Japan Free Software companies to better know each other, make business and invest in each other countries.

June 18, 1999 Linux Expo 1999 in Paris, France

KDE was be present at this years LinuxExpo. Being held in Paris, there was two KDE related talks: One from KDE developer David Faure and one from Gaël Duval (MandrakeSoft).

May 1-2, 1999 SIMPLINUX in Faro, Portugal

On May, 1st and 2nd the SIMPLINUX was held in Faro. KDE developer Richard Moore gave a talk with the title "The design of the K Desktop Environment".

April 30 - May 2, 1999 OpenNetworks 99 in Copenhagen, Denmark

KDE developer Kalle Dalheimer was the keynote speaker on the OpenNetworks conference in Denmark. See the conference webpage for more information on this conference.

March 26-27, 1999 Following the Unix and Free Sofware Day(JULL) of May, 1998, Strasbourg's LUG is happy to announce the "Journées du Libre, seconde édition", on 26th and 27th March 1999, in Illkirch, near Strasbourg (France).

The main purpose of this event was to present Free Software in general and Linux in particular to a large audience. The official language used for the lectures, demonstrations and exchanges were French (or, by default, English). The following companies were present: Cobalt Networks, Applix France, Getek, Alcôve, SuSE, RedHat France (les Logiciels du Soleil), O'Reilly Publishing Company, Arkane Media, Oracle, RBS, France Telecom, ABC, Transtec, JWay, Prodial/Hexalis, Sun France, Medasys Digital Systems.

KDE was represented by Matthias Ettrich who gave a talk about "KDE - Applications, Technology and Latest Developments".

March 23, 1999 "Tarde de Software Libre", in Madrid, Spain

The Carlos III University in Madrid organized a series of talks about free software in general to the interested public. The event was celebrated in an auditorium with capacity for 1200 people.

KDE was represented by Antonio Larrosa who gave a talk about the project, the libs, and the new features of KDE 2.0

January 20, 1999 The International Conference and Exposition Linux and Open Source Software in London, UK

On January, the 20th, an international conference about Linux and Open Source software was held in London. See the Netproject web site for more information.

The conference was mainly centered around Open Source software for e-commerce, but desktop computing with Linux was also addressed.
